Historically, the town of Sharpsburg has been a central hub of Coweta County. During the cotton era, Sharpsburg was an important center for farmers who wanted to get their crops to market. Through the 19th centruy, Sharpsburg merchants provided an assortment of products and services. In 1870, merchants benefited from the completion of the Savannah, Griffin, & North American Railroad Depot in Sharpsburg. Today, the greater Sharpsburg area is a popular place for families, offering both established and new neighborhoods, and the retail and institutional anchors needs to serve such enclaves.
